FAE (Friends of the Asian Elephant) Elephant Hospital is located between Km 28-29 on the Lampang to Chiang Mai Road in northern Thailand. It was set up in 1993 as the world's first elephant hospital and has since treated 2265 cases covering everything from eye infections to land mine injuries. It relies solely on public donations.

FAE (Friends of the Asian Elephant) Elephant Hospital is located between Km 28-29 on the Lampang to Chiang Mai Road in northern Thailand. It was set up in 1993 as the world's first elephant hospital and has since treated 2265 cases covering everything from eye infections to land mine injuries. It relies solely on public donations.

One of it's greatest achievements is fitting Mosha, a 3 year-old baby elephant who lost her foot after stepping on a landmine in Burma when she was 7 months old, with an artificial leg. The leg enables Mosha to walk around, play, and enjoy a normal elephant's life, and is only taken off when she's resting. When she sees her mahout approaching with the prosthetic leg she hops over, keen to have it put back on. The leg was created by Dr. Therdchai Jivacate at the Prosthesis Foundation.

It consists of a polyester and polypropylene copolymer shell with a soft Pelite liner to avoid any abrasion, a steel foot plate, and a urethane and polyurethane cushioned foot to minimise impact.
